community action arnprior
The Community Action for Workforce Development program was an initiative funded by the Government of Canada through the Community Workforce Development Program. It piloted intersectional, community-led workforce planning models in three rural communities across Canada, supporting economic diversification strategies aimed at addressing climate change and fostering clean growth.
Throughout the project, small and medium enterprises from various industries and sectors, alongside relevant community-based organizations and public agencies, were engaged in community workforce planning, training, and work placements.
The program provided upskilling and reskilling training, wrap-around supports, and work placements to several participants in each community.
During this project there was an opportunity to discuss clean action economy plans, labour market possibilities and challenges and diversity and inclusivity efforts that have been made in Arnprior with supportive suggestions and actions that can be made on a municipal, small business and community level.
All reports are open to the public. For in depth discussions and conversations on how to move projects forward please book with us here, we’d love to help and get you in touch with the right spaces!
co-nnect yoga in the park
Co-nnect: Yoga in the Park is a transformative initiative that brings together the community through yoga, music, sound, food, movement, and meaningful conversations. Funded by Lululemon's Here to Be Grant at $25,000, this project was launched in response to the lack of BIPOC representation among classes, offerings, and teachers in the Ottawa and Ottawa Valley area. It started just a week after George Floyd's tragic murder, aiming to create a more inclusive and supportive environment for everyone.
funding and origin
Lululemon's Here to Be Grant provided the necessary funds to kickstart Co-nnect: Yoga in the Park. This $25,000 grant enabled us to address the urgent need for diversity and representation in the wellness community. The project was conceived with the intention of offering an inclusive space where people from all backgrounds could come together, connect, and find solace through shared experiences.
community connection
Co-nnect: Yoga in the Park plays a vital role in connecting the community. Held annually in Arnprior at Robert Simpson Park, it serves as a meaningful replacement for Yoga on the Hill, which is no longer offered in Ottawa, Ontario. The event not only brings people together for yoga but also fosters a sense of belonging and unity.
In addition to the annual event in Arnprior, Co-nnect has hosted three events at local spaces in Ottawa. These gatherings are designed to unite the community through diverse activities such as music, sound healing, food, movement, and open conversations. These events provide a platform for discussing how to collectively work towards building, shaping, and changing movement practices to be more inclusive and accessible for everyone.
impact and reach
Since its inception, Co-nnect: Yoga in the Park has made a significant impact on the community. With over 50 instructors involved and more than 10,000 participants, the initiative has created a lasting positive effect. It has provided a space for individuals to connect, heal, and grow together, while also supporting local businesses and fostering community support.
local community support
Co-nnect: Yoga in the Park actively works towards supporting local businesses. By collaborating with local vendors and service providers, the initiative helps boost the local economy and promotes community resilience. These partnerships ensure that the benefits of the event extend beyond the immediate participants to the broader community.
